Hangzhou is one of
the important tourism cities in China,
famous for its natural beauty and historical and cultural heritages.
Hangzhou is the
capital of Zhejiang province. It
is the political, economic and cultural center of the province as well. It is
one of the 15 vice-provincial level cities in
China.
Hangzhou is located on
the low reaches of Qiantang river in southeast
China, with
a distance of 180 kilometers to Shanghai. It is one of
the key cities in the Yangzi Delta area.

Hangzhou covers a
total area of 16596 square kilometers, with a population of 6.08 million,
including 683 square kilometers of city proper area and city population of 1.69
million people.
According to the preliminary statistics, the
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Hangzhou was 344.099
billion yuan, up by 14.3 percent over the previous year
at comparable price, which had maintained an annual economic growth rate of over
10 percent for consecutive 16 years. The GDP per capita calculated by the people
through household register was 51,871 yuan, up by 13 percent. According to the
average exchange rate published by the Government in 2006, the GDP per captia
calculated by the people through household register reached 6,505 US
dollar.
